Key e-mobility solution for bus and truck fleets, ports on a global level impacting over 25,000 vehicles daily

Best, Netherlands; March 30th, 2022—After having installed the world’s largest charge depot at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam and leading Glasgow’s e-transition with charge solutions for the UK’s largest bus depot, Heliox, now marks another first – the successful installation of rapid charging solutions for 100 global cities. Seattle marks Heliox’ presence across 100 cities, with the market leaders in fast, electric vehicle (EV) charging systems now selected as one of the charging providers for the King County Metro.

The 100th city - Seattle - also marks the Dutch company taking large strides towards its global ambitions, with the provision of over two million high-power charging sessions annually.

The journey to 100 cities includes some of the largest e-transition projects namely:

  • In 2018, Heliox installed the world’s largest charge depot in Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam to power 100 electric buses. As of today, Heliox has completed the second phase of this project for the wider Amstelland-Meerlanden (AML) region, providing 31MW of power to over 200 e-buses.
  • Glasgow’s Caledonia bus depot, the UK’s largest electric vehicle charging hub, with an installed 80 advanced rapid 150kW dual cable charging units providing 12MW of power. The depot was designed to accommodate and charge up to 300 EV buses on site – and will see the introduction of 150 electric buses over the course of 2022 and early 2023.
  • The city of Hamburg’s buses are going electric and contribute towards Germany’s wider net-zero goals. VHH has a bus fleet of almost 700 buses and will drive fully electric within the next years. The first electric bus has been in operation since 2014, and this year there are already 88 electric buses. For the depot in Hamburg-Schenefeld, Heliox is currently installing 64 charging units with a total capacity of 9.6 MW, which will be put into operation in summer 2022.
  • King County Metro is using Heliox chargers to power its next generation of battery-electric coaches. Metro plans to add 40 buses in the coming year to serve the city of Seattle’s surrounding areas.

“Reaching our 100th city is a big milestone for Heliox but this is just the beginning. Truly, this is only the start of a global e-mobility transition and we must remain steadfast in our solutions oriented-approach to support it. The readiness for an e-mobility transition is demonstrated in all EV sectors, from public transport fleets on land or in water, mining, ports and more. It’s clear that the future of e-mobility is already here and I am proud that Heliox continues to be a trusted partner to decarbonise some of the largest turnkey charging projects in Europe” says Heliox Group CEO Michael Coljin.

Last year, Heliox supplied over 2 million high-power charge sessions, or 6000 sessions per day supporting the e-transition of over 25,000 public transportation vehicles which include buses, trucks and ferries. This demonstrates the savings per day for an e-bus of 3000-4000 tons per day1.

By the end of 2022, Heliox will power 20 additional cities towards a cleaner tomorrow.
